Leave no trace: running a responsible fishing camp

Mongolia’s rivers are clean because few people visit them. Every camp we set up should keep it that way.

Waste

• Carry out all plastic, cans and fishing line — nothing gets buried.
• Burn only paper, and only where it is safe to do so.
• Dig toilets at least 60 m from water and fill them in before leaving.

Fire

Wood is scarce on the steppe. Use a gas stove where possible, keep fires small and never leave them unattended — grass fires spread fast in dry wind.

Water

Wash dishes and yourself away from the river using biodegradable soap. Filter or boil all drinking water.

Respect

Many riverbanks are summer pastures. Ask herders before camping near their gers, keep away from livestock and close any gates you open.
